  • 8/08/2008

Did you know that if we add up today’s date together we will still get 8?
    8 + 0 + 8 + 2 + 0 + 0 + 8
= 26 (add these two numbers together)
    = 2 + 6
    = 8

And speaking of this auspicious day, I saw my cousin on tv, getting married today. It’s pretty cool to see someone you know on tv (not for the wrong reasons, of course!). But yeah, it seems that there are many couples throughout the world who have registered to be married on this very day.

Hmm…Since it is said to be chinese’s luckiest day of the century, I should probably test my luck today on a Powerball ticket! Lolz!

And yes, two more hours to the Beijing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony ^_^

  • “5 use case diagrams or 5 use cases?!”

Yes, I am really annoyed! This question was asked on the discussion board a few days ago and the lecturer replied at least 5 use cases AND 5 use case diagrams. After spending hours touching up on my diagrams, I came across a new post on the discussion board today stating that we only need to do “one use case diagram with at least 5 use cases!” Well yeah, I can look at the bright side of it and say that it was a good practice for me to do all those diagrams but really, I could have done other assignments and homework with all those time I wasted. Sigh…Never mind, I’ll still submit all five diagrams even if my tutor is going to mark just one of them

“I was going to ask the fortune-teller about it,
but I went home thinking that I’ve finally gotten over you…
…And so goodbye to you and your memories!

  • 10 Interesting Facts About the Ancient Olympic Games

Since the Olympic is just around the corner, I just thought of sharing these facts with all of you =) This article was initially taken from neatorama and was found posted in Clipmarks by wildcat:

Most people know that the Olympics started out in Ancient Greece, but did you
know that back then the athletes competed in the nude? (Though technically,
they could wear penis restraints – yes, you read that right). Or that
one of the games was an ancient form of mixed martial arts? Or that a
chef won the very first Olympic games?

To help celebrate the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, we’ll posts some neat
facts about the Olympics, starting with this one: 10 Fascinating Facts
    About the Ancient Olympic Games:

    1. Ancient Olympic Athletes Competed in the Nude

    2. The Prudes Wore Penis Restraints

    3. A Chef Won the Very First Olympic Games

    4. … and He Won … An Olive Branch!

  • My uncle was clearing his cupboard a few days ago when he found my dad’s old trench coat I was really happy about that. So I sent it for dry cleaning the following day and it’s finally back today. Click on the images to enlarge:

What do you think? It’s still in great condition and I’m sure to think of my dad whenever I wear it to uni ^_^

  • I had my first Programming lab assessment today. We were given an hour to set up classes, methods and a driver class. It was really, a little too much for an hour but thankfully my program worked alright Had lunch with my sis at Oriental Spoon, a Korean Restaurant. Their spicy kim chi udon, kim chi dumplings and honey jujube tea were great, especially for a cold afternoon ^.^ I also had my hair trimmed for my cousin’s wedding next week and this has cost me $32! What a rip-off! Well, at least it isn’t as bad as getting a ‘blow-wave’ which costs $55 here. Back home, I’ll be able to get a ‘blow-wave’ cut with just an additional RM 5.

Anyways, I was browsing through some news on the net today and I came across this headline:

Beijing Air Pollution Will Kill A Few Olympic Athletes; Alarmed US Training Expert Takes Precautions

Click on the headline above if you would like to read the article but I just want to state my opinion here…If Beijing’s air pollution is that bad, it would already take away the lives of people living over there and let’s put it this way…Athletes representing for the Olympic are going to stay in Beijing for at most a month. This wouldn’t cause them to die! ‘Expert’ environmentalists, it’s good to know that you’re all taking precautions but please do not make such an exaggeration on such issue…

  • An hour through my Networking lecture

    Lecturer A: An Internet
    Protocol
(IP) address is a numerical identification (logical address) that
is assigned to devices participating in a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol
    for communication between its nodes…
    *Help Desk phone rings*
*Lecturer stops and stares at the phone in shock for 30 seconds*
    Lecturer A: What happened?!
*moves towards the phone and picks it up*
    Lecturer A: Hello?

    LMAO! Lecturers are funny people…

…And on to my Programming lecture.

Lecturer B: I’m going to show you how to debug your code using Eclipse…
    *Clicks debug button*
A minute passed by and nothing happens…
    *Clicks icon again*
    Lecturer B: It should work…
    Another minuted passed by…
Lecturer B: …Let’s just resume with the lecture. Yeah, my laptop’s dodgy. Believe it or not, this laptop costs me five grand! Well, not much to worry about, it’s the uni’s money anyways.
Student C: And that means they’re tax payers money…
Lecturer B: Well yeah, that’s true. So I guess part of it is my own money
    Student C: And ours!

So there goes our tax money…

  • Hushed Affection

    Confessions,
You know you love to hear them.
I just wish you knew how I feel.
But then again, I hope you don’t.

The moment I began my life here,
I viewed life as sliding doors.
Yours wide open and full of life,
mine, shut as I admire you from a far.

I would have opened my door,
    Yes, I would, for you.
But no matter how much I tried,
    my heart was chained,
my conscience told me not to.

    This cold winter day,
    We meet again.
    My door is still shut,
    But yours have changed.
    Still filled with life,
    yours has been shut.
    And unlike mine,
    warmth filled your side.

    I could just walk away,
give up the hopes I had on us,
stop watching you from the other end.
But then again, I don’t want to lose this memory,
    this confession, my hushed affection.

  • A list of things that I need to do:

    ♠ Programming
    Assignment 1A (Due 8th August)
    ♠ Software Engineering
    Assignment 1 (Due 15th August)
    ♠ Web Programming Assignment 1
    (Due 18th August)

Yes, I should be studying now
instead of blogging here but I just need to some good news with all of
you…Hui Shan is coming over to Melbourne for a visit =D I really
can’t wait to hang-out with her. At least I hope I can with all these
assignments in my way. Oh, I seriously got to get them done before she
    comes over!

My uni is going to have its Open Day on
the 10th of August. It will be great if I can volunteer to help out in
that event but I’ll have to attend my cousin’s wedding on that day.
Well, not that I dread going to her wedding but RMIT means a lot to
me…lol! Yeah, you can call me preppy for that:-p

Interpreting requirements given by a client

I had my Software Engineering lecture today and the lecturer was discussing about gathering requirements from a client and how to design Use Case diagrams.  The image above is something I took from the lecture notes on how people interpret requirements differently. Just thought of sharing this amusing comic strip. Click on the image to enlarge it =)

  • It’s been a week since my new semester has begun. I’m still trying to used to my awkward timetable and those two-hour long lectures we never had during our first semester. I had two of them yesterday (First lecture was on Networking and the second lecture was on programming). I was really interested in getting to know more about these topics especially topics on Networking. That is, not until I was halfway through the lecture:

    1. The guy next to me was snoring away and it was hard not getting influenced by his sleepiness…LOL!

    2. Two guys in front of me were fiddling away on their laptop, watching explicit videos. Well, not that I’m interested in watching those but you can’t help catching a glimpse on that, can you? I have to say, though, watching porn in the lecture hall? That’s just retarded! They could just do it in private or something…

    3. They turned on the air-conditioner even though it was already freezing cold! They should really turn on the heater, not that!

But yeah, despite all these…I’m just glad that I got through those lectures well. I’ll just need to read ahead for next week’s topics and start attempting on my assignments (I’ve received three already T.T).

And yes, yesterday too, I turned 19…I seriously feel old now. But to all my friends out there, thanks a lot for the birthday wishes. They meant a lot to me ^_^
